Orchard WPWL support Rainbow Laces 2020

The Football Association of Wales are supporting the imperative Stonewall Rainbow Laces campaign which this year kicks off on the 26^th of November and runs through to the 13^th of December.

The Rainbow Laces’ campaign aim is to make sport everyone’s game, whilst focussing on inspiring, educating and encouraging allyship to support LGBT+ inclusion in sport.

A weekend of action will be taking place  across the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League and the JD Cymru Leagues in December.

Over the last four years, the collective support of the Rainbow Laces Campaign across the UK has helped generate a huge amount of awareness around LGBT+ people in sport and helped foster positive attitudes towards LGBT+ people in sport and persuaded allies to play their part.

The events of this year have also shown us how much community and allyship matter. Stonewall have identified the large impact that COVID-19 has had on LGBT+ communities who are experiencing isolation and poor mental health. This negative impact further highlights the need for sport and physical activity, for those to keep active, but also for those who rely on their sporting community to get through tough times. Together or apart, online or on the pitch, we need to build on our work to make football everyone’s game.

You can play your part on Wednesday the 9^th of December, where Stonewall are asking you to join the FAW on ‘Rainbow Laces Day’ in support of the LGBT+ community across sport. On this day, please share a photo or video of you wearing the Rainbow Laces on your social media, using #RainbowLaces and tagging @StonewallUK.
