The Football Association of Wales (FAW) are delighted to announce that Jonathan Jones and Guy Handscombe have been appointed as the Managers of the Cymru South and Cymru North regions for the UEFA Region’s Cup qualifiers that are set to take place in May.

Following changes to the format of the way the FAW determines which region represents the association in the biennial UEFA tournament, amateur players in Tier 2 and below are now available for selection.

As a result, a two-legged playoff is set to take place on Sunday May 3rd and Sunday May 10th between a Cymru North XI and a Cymru South XI made up of players eligible for the UEFA tournament.

Following a thorough applicant process, the FAW has confirmed that Jonathan Jones and Guy Handscombe have been appointed as Managers of the respective regions for the qualifying matches that are set to take place in May.

Jones is currently First Team Manager at Pontypridd Town, and has been since the start of the 2019-20 season. The Dragons currently sit 10th in the JD Cymru South table, and the UEFA A Licence holder, who currently works at the University of South Wales was very pleased to be handed the role.

“I’m delighted to be appointed Cymru South Manager. It’s always a proud moment to be involved with your home nation at any level of football, and the prospect of the UEFA Regions Cup is very exciting.”.

Jones has added Ammanford AFC First Team Manager, Gruff Harrison, to his backroom staff, and the duo will be joined by Sports Therapist Ashleigh Griffiths and Analyst Prasang Shrivastava.

The Cymru North side will be managed by current Ruthin Town Assistant Manager Guy Handscombe. Handscombe, who has previously been with Porthmadog, is excited to get things under way ahead of the qualifying matches.

“I am grateful of the opportunity to lead the Cymru North team for the Regions Cup competition. I am very pleased with the staff I have in place to support a very strong squad of players. We look forward to the challenge of aiming to qualify for the tournament in September”.

The Cymru North manager has added Colwyn Bay Assistant Manager Mark Orme to his backroom staff, whilst Lindsay Morris has joined the outfit as Physiotherapist, with Gavin Pritchard assisting as Analyst.

The winning side over the two legs will progress to represent Wales in Bulgaria in the Intermediate Round of the UEFA competition in September.
