The defending Nathaniel MG Cup champions Connah's Quay Nomads earned a dramatic 5-4 shootout over The New Saints to reach the second round.

Mike Wilde opened his account for the season following his return to the Nomads in the summer before Ryan Brobbel equalised for the Saints with 12 minutes to send the tie to penalties. Ryan Harrington struck the winning spot-kick to take the defending champions to the third round and earn Neil Gibson's his first victory in the Nomads hot seat.

Cardiff Met came from a goal down against Newtown to record a 2-1 win and reach the third round, while former Met assistant Anthony Williams saw his new Aberystwyth Town side do the same against Mid-Wales rivals Llanidloes Town.

Wildcard Caersws saw their Nathaniel MG Cup run brought to an end in the second round following a 6-1 defeat against Holywell Town, with Daniel Andrews bagging a hat-trick for the away side.

Dave Edwards bagged a brace for Bala Town as they beat JD Cymru North newcomers Chirk AAA by the same scoreline at Holyhead Road.

Sam Spridgeon scored twice as Gresford Athletic completed an upset by beating JD Cymru Premier outfit Airbus UK Broughton 2-1 at Clappers Lane, while a brace from Jack Wilson helped Haverfordwest County earn a 4-2 victory over Barry Town United.

Fellow JD Cymru Premier side Caernarfon Town overcame Holyhead Hotspur with a 1-0 win thanks to Iwan Cartwright's strike and Pontypridd United kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Carmarthen, courtesy of goals from Owain Jones and Lewys Twamley.

In the all-JD Cymru North ties, Gwion Owen struck the winner as Ruthin Town beat Guilsfield 1-0 and Iwan Jones netted for Buckley Town in their 1-0 victory at Cefn Druids.

While the all-JD Cymru South ties saw Taffs Well hit five unanswered goals past Trefelin BGC and Ammanford came from behind to earn a 2-1 victory against Swansea University. While Chris Jones and Josh Webber both netted braces in Afan Lido's 5-2 win over Cwmbran Celtic.

Colwyn Bay and Flint Town United conclude the second round ties when the pair meet on Tuesday evening, before the draw for the third round takes place on Thursday evening.
