The JD Cymru Leagues is set to make history on the weekend as a set of its match officials are to take charge of two Gibraltar Champions Group fixtures on the weekend, as part of an exchange program that will see Gibraltarian referees take charge of two JD Cymru South fixtures this weekend.
As part of an exchange between the Football Association of Wales (FAW) and the Gibraltar FA, John Jones, Alex McInch, Connor Fowler and Harry Hendricks are all travelling to Gibraltar to officiate two fixtures over the course of the weekend. The four officials are due to officiate a top of the table clash as 2nd placed St Josephs host Europa FC on Saturday afternoon Whilst the four men will then officiate the Lincoln Red Imps fixture against FCB Magpies on Sunday afternoon.
In exchange for the four Cymru Leagues officials, Tim Reoch, Denis Perez, Agus Fornieles and Seth Galia are travelling to Wales, where they will be in charge of Afan Lido’s fixture against title chasing Swansea University on Friday evening at the Marstons Stadium, whilst they will also take control over Cambrian and Clydach BGC v Ammanford AFC at the M&P 3G on Saturday at midday.
The FAW’s Referees Manager, Phil Thomas, is delighted at the development opportunities that this exchange is set to provide Welsh referees.
“Referee exchanges are pivotal for development of referees. By experiencing different cultures, climates and playing styles the referees develop a wide range of skills which enhance their ability to perform within any environment across UEFA countries.”
“Previously, exchanges have taken place between Tier 1 leagues so the exchange with Gibraltar which sees four Welsh match officials operating in Gibraltar this weekend is a new exciting initiative which will benefit match officials who have perceived potential for future development.”
The initiative will also see four match officials used in the Cymru South for the very first time.
